My name is Melissa and I am a perfume addict. Let’s be honest, there are worse things to be addicted to, and that’s fine. I have two beautiful children. My oldest likes to help me pick out scents to wear, or for herself. My youngest gives me heck if I don’t smell like “Mommy”. Thankfully, my husband is very supportive of my habit.
I have been wearing perfume since my Aunt gave me her big bottle of Obsession by Calvin Kline when I was about 16 years old. I wore the hell out of that perfume, got some more, branched out to some Cool Water (the men’s version, not the women’s). Eventually I got hooked on the body sprays by Bath and Body Works. (We’ve all been there.)
One day, a friend from work introduced me to Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. Now, I’d like to say it was all history from there, but it wasn’t. It took me another 3 or 4 years to finally be in a position and a mindset to be able to dive in (because really, you don’t dip your toes into BPAL) and explore this new world of Indie perfumes. I got imps (samples) from several people, including the friend that had originally introduced me. I found out I LOVED the complexity, diversity, and sometimes hilarity of BPAL and all it’s offerings.
However, it took me another 5 years to finally branch out. And here we are – you are joining me for my branching out. I have made it a goal to try something from every Indie Perfumery I can find. Also, I plan to go back to the houses I know and love and give my thoughts and feelings on their scents as well.
You may notice that I have a visual sense of smell. Weird, but bear with me. There are some scents where they are nice, I get the notes, I enjoy the blend, and it makes me smile. There are other scents that, for one reason or another, bring me a visual interpretation of itself. Meaning, I see myself in a place where those notes meld or would most likely be found. Sometimes it may be the creators intent to take you on that journey, sometimes it’s just happy accident. Either way, enjoy the ride, enjoy the reviews, and I hope this helps you find something you too can rave about!
P.S. In case anyone is/was wondering – all samples/bottles/EDP/testers/et all were purchased by me, either via retailer themselves or a decanter. I am not being paid to review these scents in any way whatsoever. This is all me and my love for indie and other pefumes.
